Finally got a polisher and started on getting my fresh paint up to a nice shine. It still has a way to go but it's coming along nicely. Thanks to everyone who recommended Meguiars products a while back, their compound is working great.

Once you’re done, you should reward yourself with a Twin kie

I don’t think we even have those here.

I can ship you a box. I saw them on special yesterday at the grocery store for CAD$1.99.

If you’re ever looking for an alternative to Meguiars I’ve been using Autoglym for ages and pretty much everything bar their bug remover is awesome.

It really was. I must’ve seen it like 5 times.

I’ve been using autoglym polishes for a while now actually, they’re pretty good. This Meguiars was actually cheaper than the equivalent autoglym compound though, which along with recommendations is why I went with it.

Oo thats well worth knowing, I’ll have a look for it once the Autoglym runs out. Autoglym makes my wallet sad every time I buy it so anything slightly cheaper of the same quality sounds grand.

It was £11 for a 450ml bottle of the compound. It’s a little aggressive for general cleaning but their normal polishes and waxes are a similar price. I found autoglym to be a bit more.

Looking good. Take your time with it and keep it moving. Plastic panels like glass don’t dissipate heat very well so not too high a speed and keeping it moving as the plastic may warp slightly otherwise.

Yeah I’ve made sure to keep the speed fairly low and just take my time. I accidentally caught an edge and removed a chip of paint while polishing a surface. Luckily it’s hidden when the boot is closed but I might repair it anyway. Otherwise it's coming up pretty nice.

The polisher looks like a Makita 9227 or similar which has a range of 800 to 3000rpm. 1200rpm should be about right.

It's a silverline but they probably just rebadge another company's stuff. I believe it goes up to 4200rpm but I've never had it past 1/3 power yet.

The Silverline is quite a multi tasker in that it’s a polisher sander.
Ye’, with a that high a range you certainly want to be keeping to below a third of the rpms.

Yeah I wanted something that I could use for sanding too, I bought a few sanding discs with it.
Yeah it’d be pretty easy to do damage at higher rpm. Seems to be doing a nice job so far though, just got a few patches I want to go over a bit more. Then I’ll probably do a pass with the lambswool pad and some polish.

Lambs wool is best for cutting, firm foam for polishing and soft foam for finishing and refining.
Good luck fella.
